Nothing appears wrong — because from the user’s perspective, nothing is wrong. The added code runs alongside the real app, typically harvesting SMS messages, capturing credentials, or preparing overlay screens.

The reason this matters: “I installed it and it works fine” is not evidence of anything. A working app is precisely what a good repackage produces. The only meaningful checks happen before installation:

  • Source. The platform’s own domain, typed by you. Not an APK aggregator, not a mirror, not a link from a group.
  • Hash. If the platform publishes a checksum, compare it. A mismatch means the file was altered.
  • Scan. Upload the file to a reputable multi-engine scanning service before opening it.
  • Permissions at install. Read the list. A repackage often needs permissions the original does not.
